In the premiere issue of "60 Seconds on Soccer Officiating" we covered the first six (Tablet 1) of the 11 Commandments for soccer officials...These commandments, if followed will allow you to serve the game with distinction, raise your profile with your peers and supervisors and enhance your overall experience in the game.

7.       Get 10 yards on all free kicks.  The offended team is entitled to quick restarts, which promote attacking soccer, and defenders should respect the 10-yard distance without having to be told such.  However, many teams use encroachment as a means to delay quick restarts, which is not is the spirit of the game of soccer.  Establish 10 yard distance early in the match, and be ready caution players for encroachment if necessary.
